MATTER OR NOTHING
January 19 – February 28, 2017
Curator & catalogue editor: Giuliano Serafini
On Thursday, January 19 at 8.00 in the evening Olga Karteri inaugurates the third solo exhibition of Yiorgos Giotsas at the PERITECHNON Karteris Art Gallery. Yiorgos Giotsas exhibits a body of large and medium art works made with grey and white cement.
Excerpt from the catalogue:
…There are fragments of mineral connective tissue, with sharp, battered outlines and a surface full of gaping cracks, holes and craters, allowing hollow space, the third dimension, the beyond -a hitherto taboo in Giotsas’ worldview- to invade the interior.
Between painting, sculpture and installation, these bare, eroded cements seem incorporated in the formative processes of nature. Hollow, curved or shriveled, “alive” in a word, albeit at a terminal stage, they react to the trauma inflicted by fire on their scarred, scratched, burnt and violently tattooed skin…
